Original article: Diputada Tello (FA) anuncia proceso de recolección de firmas para crear CEI que investigue nexo de Kast con red de Orbán en Hungría Deputy and leader of the Frente Amplio (FA) party, Carolina Tello, announced the launch of a signature collection within the Chamber of Deputies to establish a Special Investigative Committee (CEI) aimed at probing the connections of President José Antonio Kast with international organizations linked to former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. This announcement comes amidst judicial scrutiny in the European nation over the irregular use of public resources. The investigation led by Hungary’s new leader, Péter Magyar, focuses on the financing from Orbán to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and a series of organizations tied to his global network, including the Political Network for Values (PNfV) — a far-right platform that Kast presided over from 2022 to 2024.

Accompanied by several members of her party, Tello reaffirmed that the publicly known facts warrant a parliamentary investigation in Chile. “We are gathered here, this group of deputies, to make an appeal. A few days ago, we announced the presentation of a Special Investigative Committee to clarify certain actions of the government related to the involvement of national authorities in international activities,” stated the parliamentarian.

“Of course, we are referring to President Kast, especially since he may be linked to foreign organizations currently under investigation in their respective countries. In particular, we mention the Conservative Political Action Conference and the Political Network of Values, which we know is an international corporation that was presided over by President Kast between the years 2022 and 2024,” she added. The FA legislator also criticized the fact that the president publicly praised Viktor Orbán’s management amidst ongoing investigations against him in Hungary.

Specifically, she addressed the videos sent by Kast to the CPAC summit held in Budapest last March, where he claimed that Orbán’s model had been a “source of inspiration for our work from day one of the government. ” “The recording of various videos appearing in different media on March 22 of this year, where President Kast is seen utilizing the Palacio de La Moneda and employing institutional symbols, asserting his presidential authority granted by our country, is something that we believe needs to be investigated,” Tello proposed. “This is an issue currently under thorough scrutiny of former Minister Orbán in Hungary, and when public facilities and institutional authority are used, it becomes a problem for our country as well,” Tello affirmed, also revealing that a group of citizens have approached FA deputies to inquire about parliamentary actions being pursued to clarify these events.

Once the investigative committee gathers the necessary signatures from deputies, it can be established and begin investigating the events. “So this has been declared admissible and is open for signature by all members of this Chamber of Deputies so that anyone who wishes to provide a response to our country can do so without exclusion based on party affiliation or any other ideological considerations,” Tello concluded, urging her colleagues to join the initiative.
